President's Note
We can be a powerful voice for teacher education in our state.
I’m still riding the high from our spring conference and am grateful for the time we had together. I want to offer our thanks again to our hosts at Randolph-Macon, and our conference co-chairs, Dara Hall and Kristina Peck. If you’ve ever planned or hosted a conference, you know how much work is required to make an event successful. Kudos to everyone who contributed to the event and shared their work, led panels, gave presentations, or simply attended to engage with colleagues.
As I move at the end of this month from President to Past-President, I’ve been reflecting on my time with the organization. I attended my first joint VACTE/ATE-VA conference at Sweet Briar in 1997. A colleague insisted I attend and told me it was an organization I needed to be involved in. I went reluctantly, but I learned he wasn’t wrong. We can be a powerful voice for teacher education in our state. I am leaving you in good hands as I turn the helm over to Kristien Zenkov, who I have found to be a thoughtful, wise, and passionate educator.
Thank you for your support of me and the organization. I look forward to serving you in new ways in the future.
Best,
Tricia

SIG Updates
POLICY & ADVOCACY
The Advocacy and Policy SIG welcomes all VACTE members to sign up for our listserv!
While browsing our SIG page, we recommend signing up for the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP)'s newsletter as well. VPAP offers daily updates on all things involving Virginia's state and local government news, often with a focus on educational issues. They also do weekly recaps and occasional special reports!
Finally, please note that we have a link to 'Find My Legislator' so that in future legislative cycles, you'll know who your state legislators are. We'll also post templates for making introductions, inviting legislators to hear about your work, and taking action on specific legislation.
We appreciate all of you who are working to strengthen our programs and support our school partners. Thank you for signing up, staying in touch, and making a difference.
